Selected Works of Zhou Enlai

The Selected Works of Zhou Enlai is divided into two volumes: the first and the second. It was edited by the Party Literature Editing Committee of the Central Committee of the CPC, and the People's Publishing House published the first volume in 1980 and the second volume in 1984.

The first volume contains the writings of Zhou Enlai before the founding of the PRC, i.e., from the period of the First Internal Revolutionary War to the founding of the PRC. 60 articles are included in this volume, 40 of which were not publicly published before. The main contents include important discussions on Party construction, armed struggle and army building, the united front, the work in the White Areas and the work in the Base Areas, opposition to “Left” and right errors, the policy of the Anti-Japanese War ese Aggression, leadership methods and leadership styles, as well as profound analyses and summaries of historical experiences.

The second volume contains 56 important writings of Zhou Enlai after the founding of the PRC, 35 of which were not publicly published before, basically reflecting Zhou Enlai's main views on socialist revolution and construction. The main contents include Zhou Enlai's important discussions on socialist politics, economy, foreign affairs, culture, education, science and technology, the united front, intellectuals, ethnic minorities, the national bourgeoisie and other aspects of work. This volume also includes several messages sent by Zhou Enlai during the “Cultural Revolution” to protect a large number of cadres, democrats and scholars.

Zhou Enlai wrote a large number of articles, documents, letters, telegrams and made many important speeches during his life, but due to the difficult war environment in the past, many documents from that time could not be preserved. Therefore, although the editors of Selected Works of Zhou Enlai tried to collect as many of Zhou Enlai's writings and speeches as possible, only the most important part of them were included in the collection, and many of them could not published.

The Selected Works of Zhou Enlai is an important historical document for the study and research of the history and theory of the CPC, as well as for the study and research of Zhou Enlai's life and own thoughts.
