Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping

The series includes the selection of Deng Xiaoping's important articles and speeches which occurred in China's New-Democratic Revolution period, Socialist Revolution and Construction period, and in the period of developing the Reform and Opening-up, and includes 3 volumes.

In August 1989, the first book was published by the title of Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping (1938-1965), by the People's Publishing House, this book was edited by Editorial Committee for Party Literature of the Central Committee of the CPC Central Committee, the second edition of this book which was published in 1994, saw a title change as, the Volume 1 of Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping.

In July 1983, Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping (1975-1982), published by the People's Publishing House and edited by the Editorial Committee for Party Literature of the Central Committee of the CPC, and was published nationwide. Later In 1994, the second edition of this book was published with title as Vol. 2 of the Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping. In October 1993, Vol. 3 of Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping, edited by the Editorial Committee for Party Literature of the Central Committee of the CPC and published by the People's Publishing House, which was released nationwide.

Vol. 1 of Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping covers 43 important articles and speeches from 1938 to 1965. Including the articles: “The Party and the Anti-Japanese Democratic Government”, “The Establishment of Base Areas and The Mass Movement”, “Build Stable Base Areas in the Dabie Mountains”, “The Entire Party Should Attach More Importance to United Front Work”, “Correctly Disseminate Mao Zedong Thought” and so on. Vol. 2 of Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping, which covers Deng Xiaoping's articles between 1975 to the Twelfth National Congress of the CPC in 1982, and includes total of 60 works, which focuses on the guiding ideology of the CPC at the initial stage of rectifying chaos and works related to the initial stage of Reform and Opening-up. Including: “The Army Needs to Be Consolidated”, “The Whole Party Should Take the Overall Interest into Account and Push the Economy Forward”, “ Strengthen Party Leadership and Rectify the Party’s Style of Work”, “Mao Zedong Thought Must Be Correctly Understood as an Integral Whole”, “Some Comments on Work in Science and Education”, “Emancipate the Mind, Seek Truth from Facts and Unite as One in Looking to the Future”, “Put on the Agenda Settlement of the Taiwan Question for the Reunification of the Motherland”, “Adhering to the Four Basic Principles”, etc.

Vol. 3 of Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping covers 119 major works written by Deng Xiaoping between September 1982 and February 1992. Including those words as: “Opening Speech at the Twelfth National Congress of the Communist Party of China”, “We Shall Concentrate on Economic Development “, “Our Basic Position on the Question of Hong Kong”, “We Are Building a Socialist Society with Both High Material Standards and High Cultural and Ethical Standards”, “Make a Success of Special Economic Zones and Open More Cities to the Outside World", "One Country, Two Systems”, “We Must Adhere to Socialism and Prevent Peaceful Evolution Towards Capitalism”, “Excerpts From Talks Given in Wuchang, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Shanghai”, etc. The decade since 1982 has been a decade when our Party led the people of the whole country to create a new situation of Reform and Opening-up and socialist modernization in an all-round way. It has been a decade of continuous exploration, progress and accumulating experience regarding the path of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. It has also been a decade when China has faced and withstood several challenges of domestic disturbances and wherein dramatic changes had occurred in the international situation.

Vol. 3 provides the theoretical summarization of rich experience in respect to promoting Reform and Opening-up and socialist modernization. Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping is a complete set of texts, which collects Deng Xiaoping's most important and original works in the course of formation and development of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
