Excerpts from the Works of Mao Zedong
A thematic collection of Mao Zedong's classified topical writings. It was edited by the Party Literature Research Office of the Central Committee of the CPC and published by the Central Literature Publishing House in November 2003, in two volumes of 1.78 million words. The book is divided into eight volumes plus a final sub-volume (nine volumes in total), one for each topic, with a total of about 6,000 excerpts from Mao's important writings. The sub-volume includes Mao's commentaries on major historical events, figures, documents, and writings, which supplement the contents of the first eight editions that are difficult to compile and not easily accessible but are valuable for the study and research of Mao Zedong Thought.
Excerpts from the Works of Mao Zedong was edited according to the inner connection of each component of Mao Zedong Thought by taking the “Resolution on Several Historical Issues of the Party Since the Founding of the People's Republic” as the guideline, which was adopted by the Sixth Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Party. This layout is in line with the logic of the development of Mao Zedong Thought itself and captures the core of Mao Zedong Thought with the most universal significance and practical guidance, which plays the role of an outline for the whole book. The volumes are, in turn, on the New-Democratic Revolution, on the transition from new democracy to socialism, on socialist construction, on the People's Army, the People's War, strategy and tactics, and national defense construction, on ideological and publicity work and cultural work, on policies and strategies, on the party construction, and on many reviews of a number of historical events, figures, and literature. The collection aims to reflect the scientific system and fundamental contents of Mao Zedong Thought in a more comprehensive, systematic and accurate manner.
Excerpts from the Works of Mao Zedong presents not only the organic connection between the various components of Mao Zedong Thought in general, but also its theoretical views and their internal connections in a hierarchical manner. The content of each part runs through a general idea, that is, to observe the conditions of the times and the social situation in China with the Marxist worldview and methodology, and to point out the process and laws of the Chinese revolution according to the changes of the characteristics of the times and the nature and characteristics of a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society.
Excerpts from the Works of Mao Zedong is not only a large theoretical tool edited to help readers understand and consult important treatises on various aspects of Mao's writings, but also a "textbook formation of Mao Zedong Thought", fully demonstrating the vast connotations of the scientific system of Mao Zedong Thought.
