Selected Readings of Mao Zedong’s Works

It was edited by the Editorial Committee of the Central Committee of the CPC and published by the People's Publishing House in August 1986, in two volumes, totaling 5.82 million words.

Since the four-volume Selected Works of Mao Zedong only included the writings of Mao Zedong before the founding of New China and the volumes of the collection were too large, the CPC Central Committee published Selected Readings of Mao Zedong's Works in 1964. This collection played a positive role in popularizing Mao Zedong Thought, but many important writings were not included or only excerpts were taken. In 1986, the Party Literature Research Office of the Central Committee of the CPC, guided by the “Resolution on Several Historical Issues of the Party Since the Founding of the People's Republic”, reedited and published the two-volume Selected Readings of Mao Zedong's Works, with 68 selected writings of Mao Zedong between 1921 and 1965. Among them, 51 were selected from the Selected Works of Mao Zedong; 17 were published outside the Selected Works of Mao Zedong, including those first published in this collection.

This collection provides a popular reading for the general public to grasp Mao Zedong Thought completely and accurately.
