Selected Works of Mao Zedong on Diplomacy

A collection of Mao Zedong's thematic essays on the international situation and diplomatic issues. It was co-edited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Party Literature Research Office of the Central Committee of the CPC, and was published by the Central Literature Press and World Knowledge Press in 1994.

The Selected Works of Mao Zedong on Diplomacy contains 160 articles, speeches, talks, instructions and telegrams on diplomatic work by Mao Zedong from July 1937 to May 1974, most of which were published publicly for the first time. Among them, 16 belong to the Anti-Japanese War period, 19 to the Liberation War period, while the vast majority are the documents after the establishment of the PRC.

Mao Zedong was a world-renowned contemporary diplomatic strategist and a major decision maker in China's diplomacy. He established a brilliant track record for the establishment of China's diplomatic strategy and tactics and the formulation of guidelines and policies. The archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs alone contain nearly 10,000 articles, speeches, conversations, instructions and telegrams that reflect his profound diplomatic thinking. As for the Selected Works of Mao Zedong on Diplomacy, it contains the most representative chapters, which record Mao's important policies of "starting a new stove", "leaning to one side" and "cleaning the house and treating guests" in order to establish a new type of independent diplomacy for New China. These policies embodied the principle of defending national sovereignty and national dignity and laid a new foundation for the establishment and development of political, economic and cultural relations between China and other countries of the world on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. The Selected Works also presents Mao Zedong's thoughts and discourses on supporting national liberation movements, strengthening solidarity and cooperation among Asian, African and Latin American countries, on national equality and peaceful coexistence, on developing foreign economic cooperation, and accelerating China's socialist construction, as well as on opposing hegemony, maintaining world peace, and establishing China's diplomatic characteristics and style, which are deeply rooted in dialectical method and historical materialism and reflect a vivid and organic combination of high principle and flexibility, and the harmonious and unified application of a firm principled position and flexible diplomatic strategy.

An important feature of Selected Works of Mao Zedong on Diplomacy also includes a large number of conversations between Mao Zedong and foreign guests. These conversations are not limited to diplomatic issues, but also cover a wide range of fields such as politics, economics, philosophy, history, literature and art. They are insightful, profound, lively and full of wisdom, and are of great significance for studying and researching Mao Zedong Thought.
