Collected Works of Mao Zedong

A comprehensive collection of Mao Zedong's writings that embodies the scientific system of Mao Zedong Thought. A total of 8 volumes, including 803 writings by Mao Zedong.

In order to meet the requirement of strengthening the study of Marxist theory under the new situation and to better study and research Mao Zedong Thought, the Party Central Literature Research Office, with the approval of the Party Central Committee, started to work on it since the early 1990s, and published it one after another from December 1993 until it was all completed in 1999. These 8 volumes, spanning 55 years and 2.3 million words, do not repeat the Selected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1-4). Volumes 1-5 are the writings of the New-Democratic Revolution period, and Volumes 6-8 are the writings of the socialist period. It was the first time so far that a large number of Mao's writings in the socialist period had been published publicly. Among them, the exposition of Marxist epistemology and dialectics in the context of the practice of the Chinese revolution and construction carries an important weight. Plus, some of the writings in the Collected Works reflect, in a very concentrated way, a major historical event in the history of the Party or the Party's policy in a particular area.

A distinctive feature of Collected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1-8) is the inclusion of a number of Mao's internal speeches and talks, many of which were published publicly for the first time. Some of Mao's speeches at important meetings reflect the major decisions he made at critical historical moments and offer some important ideological and theoretical views. These speeches are vivid, lively and thorough, full of profound and familiar quotations and aphorisms. They are highly capable of impressing people, revealing from time to time some theoretical activities in his inner world, thus having unique value for the study of Mao Zedong and Mao Zedong Thought.

In short, the Collected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1-8) is another comprehensive multi-volume collection of Mao's writings that embodies the scientific system of Mao Zedong Thought, following the Selected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1-4). The writings in the Selected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1-4) are the most representative writings of Mao Zedong during the period of democratic revolution. Generally speaking, they are the results of Mao's theories or policy views on a particular field or aspect. There must have been a process and an origin for the production of these results. In order to understand this process and its origin, it is not possible to get a definite answer from the Selected Works of Mao Zedong itself. The publication of the Collected Works of Mao Zedong, on the other hand, has made up for this deficiency to a certain extent. Moreover, the Collected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1-8) has also filled the gap of the lack of a collection of Mao Zedong's writings for the Socialism period.

The Collected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1-8) fully and comprehensively reflects the scientific system of Mao Zedong Thought and the process of its formation and development, revealing Mao's new explorations during the Socialist period and the continued development of Mao Zedong Thought after the founding of New China. It is of great significance for the in-depth study and research of Mao Zedong Thought.
