Editor’s Notes from Socialist Upsurge in China’s Countryside
In 1955, the socialist transformation of agriculture entered a climax. In this context, Mao Zedong edited the book Socialist Upsurge in China's Countryside, and wrote notes for 104 out of 176 materials in September and December. These remarks reflect Mao Zedong's thoughts and ideas on the socialist transformation of agriculture. Among them, 32 notes constitute the selected notes of Socialist Upsurge in China's Countryside. It was included in the Collected Works of Mao Zedong, Volume 6.
"Socialist Upsurge in China's Countryside" involves practical experience in various aspects of China's agricultural socialist transformation. Mao Zedong summed up in the form of notes and put forward many valuable ideas. For example, diligent and thrifty management should be the policy of all agricultural production cooperatives and all economic undertakings in the country; the birth of socialism, a new thing, can only be realized through a serious struggle with the old things; as long as our Party's policies on dealing with the issue of cooperation are correct, as long as our Party's working methods are not authoritarian or simple. It is by no means very difficult to achieve the goal of co-operation and increase production by reasoning with the masses and making analysis. Political work is the lifeline of all economic work. True equality between men and women can only be achieved in the process of socialist transformation of the whole society.
