Stick to the Leading Position of Marxism in the Ideological and Cultural Field
Adhering to and consolidating the guiding position of Marxism in the field of ideology and culture and adhering to the ideological and cultural leadership of the working class and its political party are the important principles of Mao Zedong Thought and the important cultural principles and policies consistently adhered to by the Communist Party of China. In his “On New Democracy”, Mao Zedong pointed out that the culture of New Democracy and the culture of socialism cannot do without the leadership of proletarian culture and ideology, of communist ideology, and that the cultural ideology of any other class cannot be followed." … “And since the Chinese revolution today cannot do without proletarian leadership, China's new culture cannot do without the leadership of proletarian culture and ideology, of communist ideology”. After the founding of New China, in September 1954, Mao Zedong pointed out in his opening speech at the First Session of the First National People's Congress: "the force at the core leading our cause forward is the Communist Party of China. The theoretical basis guiding our thinking is Marxism-Leninism.” In September 1956, in the opening speech of the Eighth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong pointed out: "The victories of our revolution and construction is the victory of Marxism-Leninism. Close integration of Marxist-Leninist theory with the practice of the Chinese revolution is the ideological principle consistently followed by our Party. Only by adhering to the guiding position of Marxism in the field of ideology and culture can we guarantee the socialist direction of cultural development in our country, and the cultural discourse right of the proletariat and the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people can be guaranteed, and such cultural work can truly serve the people and consolidate and develop the cause of socialism.
