Uphold the Leadership of Marxism in the Field of Ideology

Ideology is a superstructure that every country attaches great importance to. Whether it is a capitalist country or a socialist country, every country has an ideology that serves national interests. The first person to use the word “ideology” (French word) was the French scholar Torasi. The acquisition of theoretical significance of “ideology” started from Marx. Marx first used the German word “ideology” in his doctoral thesis. The salvoes of the October Revolution brought Marxism-Leninism to the Chinese people. Marxism is the guiding ideology of the Communist Party of China for building the Party and the country, the banner of our country's socialist ideology, and the common ideological foundation for the unity and struggle of the people of all ethnic groups across the country. Adhering to the guiding position of Marxism in the field of ideology is the most fundamental point of view in the ideological view of the Communist Party of China, and an important experience and basic law for the Communist Party of China to lead the socialist ideological work after it took power.

On August 19, 2013, Xi Jinping’s speech at the National Propaganda and Ideological Work Conference emphasized that economic construction is the central task of the Party, and ideological work is an extremely important work of the Party. Propaganda and ideological work is to consolidate the guiding position of Marxism in the field of ideology, and consolidate the common ideological foundation of the unity and struggle of the whole Party and the people. Party members and officials must have firm beliefs in Marxism and communism, and make unremitting efforts to realize the basic guidelines of the Communist Party of China at this stage. Leading officials, especially senior officials, should take systematic mastery of the basic theories of Marxism as a strong skill, and learn Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, especially Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of “Three Represents” and the Scientific Outlook on Development in an honest and original manner.

On May 17, 2016, Xi Jinping's “Speech at the Symposium on Philosophy and Social Sciences” once again emphasized that in the face of the increasingly active social ideological concept and value orientation, the coexistence of mainstream and non-mainstream, and the new situation of turbulent social thoughts, how to consolidate the guiding position of Marxism in the ideological field, cultivate and practice the core values of socialism, and consolidate the common ideological foundation for the unity and struggle of the whole Party and the people of the country urgently requires philosophy and social sciences to play a better role.
