Cultural diversification
The cultural diversity formed in the long-term practice of different countries and different nationalities with their own characteristics, that is to say, it is a variety of different forms by which various groups and societies express their cultures.
The second expression is based on the “Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions” adopted by the 33rd Session of the General Conference of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in October 2005.
Cultural diversity is reflected not only in the rich and colorful forms of expression, promotion and inheritance of human cultural heritage, but also in the creation, production, dissemination, sale and consumption of art. Cultural diversity is the basic feature of human society, an important driving force for the progress of human civilization, and a major development trend of the contemporary world. Culture is the lifeblood of the nation and the spiritual home of the people. Every nation and country in the world has its own unique culture. National culture is an important symbol of national identity. The existence of many national cultures is the basis of cultural diversity. Diversity has always been the basic feature of world culture.
In today’s world, there are more than 200 countries and regions, thousands of ethnic groups, and more than 6,000 languages and hundreds of religions. These people of different nationalities, historical and cultural backgrounds and faiths have jointly created a rich and colorful world culture. To recognize cultural diversity is to respect the cultural diversity of the world.
First of all, we should identify with our own national culture, cultivate and develop our own national culture, and attach importance to the preservation of cultural heritage. Cultural heritage is an important symbol of the historical and cultural achievements of a country and a nation. It not only plays an important role in studying the evolution of human civilization, but also plays a unique role in showing the diversity of world culture.
Secondly, we should respect the cultures of other nationalities, respect differences, allow diversity in cultural exchanges, follow the principle of equality of all ethnic cultures, and jointly promote the prosperity of world culture.
Thirdly, we should not only maintain the right of cultural differences and equal competition of all ethnic groups, but also safeguard the right of cultural interaction and free creation, so as to jointly promote the prosperity and progress of human civilization.
Diversity is not only the basic feature of world culture, but also an important driving force for the progress of human civilization. The exchanges, interflow and confrontation between different cultures enrich the forms and connotations of the world’s diverse cultures, promote the progress and development of the history of human civilization, and enhance the relations and friendship between countries and nations, which is an important part of cultural diversity. History has proved that respecting cultural diversity is not only the inherent requirement for the development of national culture, but also the inevitable requirement for the realization of world cultural prosperity.
In 1995, the World Cultural Development report “The Diversity of Our Creativity” put forward by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization affirmed the necessity of the pluralistic development of the world culture.
In 1998, the Intergovernmental Conference on Cultural policies for Development held in Stockholm adopted “The Action Plan for Cultural Policies for Development”, calling for the strengthening of equal exchanges and cooperation among cultures.
In November 2001, the 31st session of UNESCO adopted “The Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity”, pointing out that cultural diversity is as essential to mankind as biodiversity is to maintaining biological balance.
In 2005, the 33rd session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization adopted the “Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions”, marking the formation of a series of important consensus in the international community on the issue of cultural diversity. it means that the principle of cultural diversity has been promoted to the ethical and moral level that the international community should abide by.
The reports of the 18th and 19th CPC National Congress have put forward the proposition of “cultural diversity”, which holds that the continuous promotion of cultural diversity in the world today is one of the characteristics of the current international situation and one of the favorable conditions for maintaining the overall stability of the international situation. Nowadays, there is a phenomenon that the ecology of cultural diversity in the world has been impacted and destroyed. China is an advocate and practitioner of maintaining and promoting cultural diversity in the world.
The Communist Party of China and the Chinese government are fully aware of the differences between different nationalities and civilizations, advocate mutual respect, equal treatment, seeking common ground while reserving differences, advocating coexistence among different civilizations without conflict, dialogue without confrontation, exchange without closure, compatibility but not exclusion, learning from each other’s strong points and making up for weaknesses, free absorption, harmonious coexistence and common progress. While maintaining the characteristics of Chinese culture, contemporary China not only warmly welcomes the spread of excellent cultures from all over the world in China, actively absorbs and draws lessons from the excellent civilization achievements of other countries, but also pays attention to actively disseminating Chinese culture to the world. Take the initiative to promote Chinese culture to the world and enhance the international influence of Chinese culture.
China has signed intergovernmental cultural cooperation agreements and about 800 annual cultural exchange implementation plans with more than 150 countries, and has maintained close cooperative relations with thousands of cultural organizations. China has also played a constructive role as a cultural power in the UNESCO.
Since its accession to the “Convention for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage” and the “Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions”, China has conscientiously fulfilled its obligations under the two conventions and served as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Cultural Diversity for two consecutive terms, which has made outstanding contributions to promoting the development of cultural diversity in the world.
