Opinions Regarding Some Problems in the Work of the Present Literature and Art (Draft)

Also known as the "Eight Articles of Literature and Art".

It is a guiding document of literature and art officially approved and promulgated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on April 30, 1962.

The "Eight Articles of Literature and Art" review the achievements of literature and artwork since the founding of New China and propose eight measures for adjustment and improvement in response to the “Left” tendencies in literature and artwork since the late 1950s.

The main contents are as follows: to further implement the policy of "letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend"; to critically inherit the national cultural heritage and absorb foreign cultures; to correctly carry out literary and artistic criticism; to unite all writers and artists who can unite, and not to use the methods of struggling against the enemy, the methods of administrative orders, or to subordinate the minority to the majority. Method to solve world view, academic and artistic problems; improve leadership methods and leadership style; improve the quality of creation, improve the ideological and artistic quality of works; ensure creative time, pay attention to the combination of work and leisure; train excellent talents, reward excellent creation.

The "Eight Articles of Literature and Art" summarize the lessons learned from the work of literature and art since the founding of New China in a pragmatic manner, reflecting the positive results of correcting the “Left” errors in the guiding ideology of literature and art, and promoting the healthy and prosperous development of literature and art in China.
