Ideological and Political Work is the Life-Blood of Economic Work and Any Other Work

Ideological and political work is an important guarantee for the victory of the revolution, construction work after the revolution and reform under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and an important front of the Party work. Attaching importance to ideological and political work is the fine tradition of the Communist Party of China.

After the founding of new China, Mao Zedong further summarized the experience of the Party's ideological and political work. In 1955, Mao Zedong put forward the judgment that "political work is the lifeline of all economic work" in his book The Socialist Upsurge in China’s Countryside.

In January 1958, Mao Zedong put forward in his "Sixty Points on Working Methods": "Party’s focus of attention should be shifted to technological revolution. At the same time, we must carefully combine technology with politics.”

He added: " It is beyond any doubt that politics and economy, politics and technology must be unified. This must be so and will for ever be so. This is the meaning of ‘red and expert’. The term, ‘politics’, will continue to exist, but in a different sense. To ignore ideology and politics, to be always preoccupied with business matters—the result will be a disoriented economist or technologist and that is dreadful. Ideological and political work is the guarantee for the completion of economic, technological work and it serves the economic base.”…“A slight relaxation in our ideological and political work will lead our economic and technological work astray.” In Mao Zedong's view, ideological and political work is the fundamental guarantee for the Party's all work, especially fundamental guarantee for its leadership in socialist construction, it is the fundamental guarantee for adhering to the correct direction in building socialism. In the “Resolution on Certain Questions in Our Party's History since the Founding of the PRC”, adopted at the Sixth Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Party (June 1981), it was clearly stipulated that "ideological and political work is the lifeline of economic work and all other work", and it was incorporated into the Party's ideological system as an important content of Mao Zedong Thought. Unswervingly doing a good job in ideological and political work in all aspects of Party’s work, is an important guarantee for the continuous victory of the party's cause.
