Sinicization of Marxism

“Therefore, the Sinicization of Marxism makes it with Chinese characteristics in every performance, that is to say, to apply it according to Chinese characteristics has become an urgent problem for the whole party to understand and solve.”

“Occidental stereotypes must be abolished, empty and abstract tunes must be sung less, dogmatism must rest, and replaced by fresh and lively Chinese style, which is popular for the Chinese people.”

Mao Zedong also pointed out: "All CPC members with considerable research ability should study the theories of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin, study the history of our nation, and study the current situation and trend of the movement.”

In accordance with the spirit of Mao Zedong's speech, “The Political Resolution of the Sixth Plenary Session of the Sixth Expanded Central Committee of the CPC” adopted at the plenary session emphasized that: "We must intensify and seriously improve the theoretical level of the whole Party, make concerted efforts from top to bottom to learn the theories of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin, and flexibly apply Marxism-Leninism and international experience to every practical struggle in China.”

On October 4, 1939, Mao Zedong summed up the experience of both positive and negative aspects of the Chinese revolution in his inauguration preface to "Introducing The Communists" based on the understanding of “the unity between the theory of Marxism-Leninism and the practice of the Chinese revolution”, and discussed the issue of "the Sinicization of Marxism".

Subsequently, in the article "On New Democracy", Mao Zedong further pointed out that "the universal truth of Marxism must be combined with specific national characteristics of the Chinese revolution and acquire a definite national form if it is to be useful, and in no circumstances can it be applied subjectively as a mere formula. Marxists who make a fetish of formulas are simply playing the fool with Marxism and the Chinese revolution, and there is no room for them in the ranks of the Chinese revolution.”

On September 10, 1941, Mao Zedong made a report on "Opposing Subjectivism and Sectarianism" at the expanded meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, emphasizing that “we should distinguish between creative Marxism and dogmatic Marxism”, “propagate creative Marxism", and "we should make the Chinese revolution rich in practical Marxism”.

On May 26, 1943, the Central Committee of the CPC issued the “Decision of the Central Committee of the CPC on the Proposal of the Executive Bureau of the Communist International to Dissolution of the Communist International”, which said: “Our Rectification Movement carried out by the CPC in recent years against subjectivism, sectarianism and Stereotyped Party Writing is to further integrate Marxism-Leninism, the revolutionary science, comprehensively with the practice of Chinese revolution, Chinese history and Chinese culture.”

In the early days of the founding of New China, when editing Selected Works of Mao Zedong, Mao Zedong changed the expression of "Sinicization of Marxism" to "concretization of Marxism in China." After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the CPC of China, the concept of "Sinicization of Marxism" became widely used again.

The Communist Party of China adheres to the combination of the basic principles of Marxism with China's specific reality, and it has produced two theoretical achievements in the historical process of promoting the Sinicization of Marxism, which are Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
