The Twenty-Sixth Congress of the C.P.S.U.

The Twenty-sixth Congress of the C.P.S.U. was held in the Great Hall of the Kremlin, Moscow, between February 23 to March 3, 1981. The Congress was attended by 4,994 delegates, representing 17.48 million party members. It was also attended by 123 delegations from foreign communist and workers’ parties, as well as delegates National Democratic and left and socialist parties have attended the Congress.

The General Assembly heard and discussed "the Report of the C.P.S.U. Central Committee and the Immediate Tasks of the Party in Home and Foreign Policy” delivered personally by l. I. Brezhnev". The Report of the Central Auditing Commission" delivered by G. Sizov, and "the Draft Guidelines For the Economic and Social Development of the USS.R. for 1981-1985 and for the Period Ending in 1990" delivered by Tikhonov, adopted corresponding resolutions on these reports. The Congress also adopted the “Resolution of the 26th C.P.S.U. Congress on Redrafting the C.P.S.U. Programme” and “Resolution of the 26th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union on Letters and Statements by Working People and Appeals by Communists Addressed to the 26th Congress of the C.P.S.U. ”.

The Congress elected the Central Committee composed of 193 members and 151 candidate members (Brezhnev was elected as the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee) and a Central Auditing Commission consisting of 75 members.
