The Development Path of Socialist Culture with Chinese Characteristics

The cultural embodiment of the development path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In 2011, the 6th Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee put forward the proposition of building a country with a strong socialist culture, requiring to adhering to the guidance of Marxism, the direction of serving the people and socialism, promoting the all-round development of people, and cultivating socialist citizens who are ideal, ethical, educated, and disciplined; inheriting and carrying forward the excellent Chinese cultural traditions, vigorously promoting Chinese culture, and building a common spiritual home for the Chinese nation. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh CPC Central Committee, the promotion of socialist cultural and ideological progress was proposed. After the 4th Plenary Session of the 13th CPC Central Committee, the third-generation central leadership group with Jiang Zemin as the core proposed the task of building an advanced socialist culture. Since the 16th CPC National Congress, the grand goal of building a country with a strong socialist culture was put forward, showing that the Communist Party of China has a high degree of cultural awareness and self-confidence. The report of the 18th CPC National Congress emphasized that “to build a country with a strong socialist culture, we must follow the path of socialist cultural development with Chinese characteristics”. It is reiterated to “Adhere to the direction of serving the people and socialism, adhere to the policy of letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend, adhere to the principle of being close to reality, close to life, and close to the masses, and promote the all-round development of socialist cultural and ideological progress and material progress, and develop national, scientific, and popular socialist culture oriented towards the modernization, the world, and the future”. It is emphasized that enhancing the cultural creative vitality of the entire nation is the key.

It is required to deepen the cultural system reform, strengthen the construction of the Socialist core value system, comprehensively improve the moral quality of citizens, enrich the people's spiritual and cultural life, and enhance the overall cultural strength and competitiveness.

The development path of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics is interlinked with the path of new-type industrialization with Chinese characteristics, the development path of democratic politics with Chinese characteristics, and the development path of a harmonious socialist society with Chinese characteristics.
