Selected Important Documents Since the Founding of the People’s Republic of China

This is the first large collection of important Party and state documents published systematically from the founding of New China to the 17 years before the “Cultural Revolution”. It was edited by the Party Literature Research Office of the Central Committee of the CPC and published by the Central Literature Publishing House from May 1992 to May 1998 and reprinted in 2011. There are 20 volumes, including 1,232 documents, totaling 7.8 million words.

The important documents included in the Selected Important Documents since the Founding of the People's Republic of China cover the most basic documents formulated by the CPC Central Committee, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the State Council and the Central Military Commission, as well as some important documents of the departments under them that were approved; the representative speeches and articles of the central leaders of the Party and the state; speeches and articles delivered by the heads of relevant departments on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the government; important newspaper editorials reflecting the spirit of the Central Committee; the informal documents and transcripts of speeches and articles that had a greater impact or theoretical significance in history; editorials; unofficial documents and speeches that had a great impact or had important theoretical significance in history. Nearly half of the documents were made public for the first time.

Guided by the "Resolution on Certain Historical Issues of the Party since the Founding of the People's Republic", this collection of documents was edited to reflect the historical reality and the major practices of the Party objectively and comprehensively while leading the people to establish, govern and build the country. The historical materials provided are comprehensive, systematic and reliable, providing authoritative readings for cadres to study and summarize the historical experience since the founding of New China, to understand and study the process of the Party's exploration of the road to socialism, and to further understand the correctness of the road and theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
