Eliminate Closed-Doorism and Adventurism

During the spring of 1936, when Liu Shaoqi chaired the Northern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee as a representative of the CPC Central Committee, he "wrote an article to implement the spirit of the Wayaobu Conference of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in December 1935 and to purge the long-standing influence of 'left' closed-doorism and adventurism in the work in White Areas”.

On April 10, 1936, it was published in No. 55 of Fireline, an internal journal of the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. It was included in the Selected Works of Liu Shaoqi (Part I), published by People’s Press in 1981.

The article analyses the new changes of class relations in China after the Incident of September 18th, especially the North China Incident, and points out that there are serious “Left” deviationist closed-doorism and adventurism in the work in White Areas of the Communist Party of China, which greatly hinder the implementation of the Anti-Japanese National United Front policy and become the main danger of the Party.

The article cited all kinds of manifestations of “Left” deviationist erroneous thoughts, pointed out the serious damage done to the Party by closed-doorism and adventurism in the past few years, analysed the root causes of closed-doorism, pointed out that closed-doorism and adventurism are the main dangers in the Party at present, and emphasized that these errors must be thoroughly exposed now and that they must be dealt a fatal blow and purged from the Party.

We have to educate our comrades to study the art of leading the masses, to study to use it strategically, to boldly let our comrades and cadres go to the masses, to build up the united front of the whole nation against the Japanese traitors, to organize the national defense government and the anti-Japanese allied army, to lead the millions of people onto the battlefield of the national revolution, and to completely defeat the Japanese imperialists and their lackeys in China.

The article played a major role in correcting the “Left” deviationist errors in the Party's work in the White Areas during the Agrarian Revolutionary War and in achieving a strategic change in the CPC's approach to work in the White Areas.
