The Purpose of the Communist Party of China
It can be briefly defined as serving the people wholeheartedly, as the vanguard of the Chinese working class, the CPC is a faithful and loyal representative of Chinese people and Chinese nation. It has no special interests of its own other than the interests of the people. Serving the people wholeheartedly should also be the starting point and ultimate goal of all activities of the members of the CPC.
In February 1939, Mao Zedong wrote to Zhang Wentian and for the first time put forward the concept of "serving the people". On September 8, 1944, Mao Zedong gave a speech on “Serving the People” at comrade Zhang Wentian’s memorial ceremony. In the opening speech of the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China, he said, "we should be modest, prudent, guard against arrogance and impetuosity and serve the Chinese people wholeheartedly." The Seventh National Congress of the CPC agreed to put in the Constitution the following sentence: "Communists of China must have the spirit of serving the Chinese people wholeheartedly". On May 14, 1955, when Mao Zedong met with the cadres brigade of the First Squadron of the Central Security Bureau, he again stressed: "What is the purpose of our revolution?" "The purpose of our work is to serve communism, specifically what we usually call serving the people.
Serving the people wholeheartedly is an obvious mark that distinguishes the Communist Party from any bourgeois party.” Consequently, Mao Zedong stressed: “Our point of departure is to serve the people whole-heartedly and never for a moment divorce ourselves from the masses, to proceed in all cases from the interests of the people and not from one's self-interest or from the interests of a small group,” and “every comrade must be brought to understand that the supreme test of the words and deeds of a Communist is whether they conform with the highest interests and enjoy the support of the overwhelming majority of the people.” When a Marxist Party becomes a ruling party, building the party for the public and governing for the people is the concentrated embodiment of the party's fundamental purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly.
