Law of the People's Republic of China on Deputies Elected to the NPC and to the Local People’s Congresses at Various Levels

Reviewed and adopted at the 5th Session of the Seventh National People's Congress on April 3, 1992, and revised twice by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on August 27, 2009 and October 28, 2010. It consists of 6 chapters and 52 articles in total.

“Deputies Law” clearly stipulates that deputies to the National People's Congress and local people's congresses at various levels represent the interests and will of the people and participate in the exercise of state power in accordance with the functions and powers entrusted to the people's congresses at the corresponding levels by the Constitution and laws. It also made specific provisions on the rights and obligations of deputies to the National People's Congress and local people's congresses at various levels, their work during the session, their activities during the intersessional period, the guarantee for the performance of their duties, and their supervision. This is a law to ensure that deputies elected to people's congresses at all levels perform their duties according to law.
