Bourgeois Liberalization

It refers to the political trend of thoughts which oppose and deny the “Four Cardinal Principles”, advocating “wholesale westernization”, advocating the capitalist road, and implementing the capitalist system. Bourgeois liberalization advocates abolishing public ownership and implementing privatization economically; abolishing the leadership of the Communist Party and the people’s democratic dictatorship and implementing a multi-Party system and “tripartite” political system politically; and abolishing the guiding position of Marxism ideologically. Since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh CPC Central Committee, the Communist Party of China has always attached importance to the issue of opposing bourgeois liberalization. In March 1979, Deng Xiaoping emphasized at the theoretical retreat that while criticizing the ultra-left trend of thought, we should also attach importance to criticizing the trend of thought that doubts or opposes the “Four Cardinal Principles” from the right size.

In December 1980, Deng Xiaoping clearly raised the issue of opposing bourgeois liberalization at the CPC Central Committee Working Conference. He pointed out that the core of bourgeois liberalization was to oppose the leadership of the Communist Party, and without the leadership of the Communist Party of China, there would be no socialist system. Adhering to the “Four Cardinal Principles” and fighting against the liberalization of the bourgeoisie has a bearing on the future and destiny of the Party and the country. Since then, in response to the fact that some people used the concept of “freedom” to confuse the essence in their opposition to the “Four Cardinal Principles”, Deng Xiaoping emphasized that liberalization itself is bourgeois, and there is no proletarian or socialist liberalization. Liberalization itself is a confrontation, opposition or modification against our current policies and systems. Liberalization is to lead us to the path of capitalism, so we must oppose the term “bourgeois liberalization”. In September 1986, the “Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Several Important Issues Concerning Strengthening Socialist Ideological and Ethical Progress” passed by the 6th Plenary Session of the 12th CPC Central Committee pointed out that: “Bourgeois liberalization is to deny the socialist system and advocate the capitalist system, which is fundamentally contrary to the interests of the people and the trend of history”. The struggle against bourgeois liberalization is arduous and long-term. Deng Xiaoping pointed out: “In the entire process of realizing the four modernizations, at least for the remaining ten years of this century, plus the first fifty years of the next century, there will be issue of opposing bourgeois liberalization”. In October 1987, the report of the 13th CPC National Congress emphasized that in the initial stage of socialism, the idea of bourgeois liberalization will exist for a long time. Eliminating its interference and influence will run through the entire process of the initial stage of socialism. In 1992, Deng Xiaoping emphatically reminded the whole Party in his Southern Talks that the proliferation of bourgeois liberalization has extremely serious consequences. In the entire reform and opening process, we must always pay attention to adhering to the “Four Cardinal Principles”.

Deng Xiaoping pointed out that the struggle against the bourgeois liberalization should pay attention to the mastery of policies and methods, which shall mainly be based on education and guidance, and rely on education. When necessary, some administrative and legal means should be adopted.
