Wayaobu Conference
On December 17, 1935, the Party Central Committee held an enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau in Wayaobu in Northern Shaanxi. It is known as the "Wayaobu Conference". The Conference was presided over by Zhang Wentian. It was attended by Mao Zedong, Zhang Wentian, Zhou Enlai, Bo Gu, Li Weihan, Wang Jiaxiang, Liu Shaoqi, Deng Fa, Kai Feng, Zhang Hao (Lin Yunan), Deng Yingchao, Wu Liangping, Guo Hongtao and others. The Conference mainly discussed the issues of establishing the Anti-Japanese National United Front, the anti-Japanese allied army and the national defense government, and criticized the Party's “Left” closed-doorism view that it was impossible to win over the national bourgeoisie, workers and peasants to unite against Japan. The Conference adopted the "Resolution of the Central Committee on Military Strategy" and "Resolution of the Central Committee on the Current Political Situation and the Tasks of the Party".
After the Conference, in accordance with the spirit of the Central Committee's resolution, Mao Zedong gave a report entitled "On the Strategy of Opposing Japanese Imperialism" at a meeting of Party activists on the 27th, giving a comprehensive and profound Marxist-Leninist theoretical analysis of the Party's strategy of the Anti-Japanese National United Front. The report proposed that the basic strategy of the Party was to organize millions of people, mobilize a vast revolutionary army, and establish a broad Anti-Japanese National United Front. Therefore, it was necessary to oppose “Left” closed-doorism and to insist on the leadership of the proletariat in the national united front.
The Wayaobu Conference and Mao Zedong's report "On the Strategy of Opposing Japanese Imperialism" scientifically analyzed the new changes in domestic class relations, thoroughly criticized the “Left” and right-leaning mistakes of the Party, especially Wang Ming's “Left” and closed-doorism, and systematically formulated the political strategy of the Anti-Japanese National United Front.
The Wayaobu Conference was an extremely important conference held during the great turning point from the Second Internal Revolutionary War to the Anti-Japanese War. The CPC lost no time in formulating the Anti-Japanese National United Front policy, which enabled the Party to grasp the political initiative in the new historical period. It showed that the Party had overcome its "left-leaning" adventurist and close-minded guiding ideology in the period before the Long March.
