Combat Great-Nation Chauvinism

An important principle of the foreign policy of the CPC and the Chinese government. Great-Nation Chauvinism, also called "great power" ideology, is an aggressive nationalist ideology, named after French soldier Nicolas Chauvin, who enthusiastically supported Napoleon's aggressive and expansionary policy at the end of the 18th century and advocated the violent conquest of other nationalities and the establishment of a French Empire. Its meaning is that the big countries, in dealing with smaller countries, do not treat others equally and with mutual respect, but with a sense of superiority of the big countries, harm the feelings and interests of other countries, and even violently interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, endangering the independence and sovereignty of other countries, which is a reflection of the bourgeois nationalist ideology in international relations.

In other words, Great-Nation Chauvinism is a reactionary bourgeois nationalism which is manifested in the relations between the big countries and the small countries, in which the big countries bully the small, the rich oppress the poor, and the strong bully the weak.

The CPC and the Chinese Government advocate the equality of all countries in the world, regardless of their size, wealth, poverty, strength or weakness, and resolutely oppose the bullying of the small by the big, the suppression of the poor by the rich, and bullying the weak by the strong. The affairs of each country should be managed by its own people, and the affairs of the world should be solved by all countries through consultation.

Mao Zedong pointed out in his article "In Commemoration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen": "In international relations, the Chinese people should rid themselves of Great-Nation Chauvinism resolutely, thoroughly, wholly and completely.”

Liu Shaoqi pointed out in the political report of the Eighth CPC National Congress: "In all relations with foreign countries and peoples, the Party must educate its cadres to adopt a real attitude of equality and resolutely oppose Great-Nation Chauvinism."
